Foundations of Systems–Centered Training
Led by Mike Maher
- Understand the basic theory of SCT and how it can be applied.
- Discover more about the impact that others have on you, and the influence you have on others.
This training is for those new to SCT as well as those with previous SCT experience. You will learn foundational SCT theory and methods through skills training and the experience of working in a real–life group over the course of the week. This training is primarily experiential and can be challenging.
Making Work Roles Work (for us and our organisations)
Led by Susan Gantt
- Understand how to use SCT as we work as a team member.
- Explore how to use SCT to view our work contexts.
This experiential workshop is for those new to SCT as well as those with previous training wanting to apply their skills and explore their challenges in work roles. The content and experience of this workshop change every time, so if you’ve been before, you'll still have a new experience.

Intermediate Skills and Advanced Intermediate Skills

Intermediate Skills: The first step in intermediate training, learning how to apply the SCT skills protocols with others.
Advanced Intermediate Skills: Requires previous Intermediate Skills workshop and focuses on deepening understanding and use of the protocols.

Intermediate Leadership Development and Mentor Training
(starting Sunday 8 September at 9.00) Led by Fran Carter and Annie MacIver
See and understand what is happening in a system: collect data from the communication pattern (SAVI) and driving and restraining forces in relation to the system goals, look at the phase of development and explore which restraining force to weaken to support survival, development and transformation in context. Builds on learning from Intermediate Skills Training.

Container Training

Work as containers to contribute to the group development within the Making Work Roles Work workshop by learning to watch the group and use data from yourselves as information about the system and its phase of development.

Fran Carter, LSW
Fran is a licensed SCT practitioner and SCT& SAVI trainer. She is a founding member of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute and is a principal in SAVI Communications. Fran is based in Philadelphia,US and consults with and trains individuals, groups and organisations internationally. She is the Co-Developer of theSAVI Certification Program.
Rowena Davis, MSc.
Rowena is an organisational consultant working with private, public and not-for-profit organisations internationally, coaching individuals and teams, and facilitating change and leadership development. She runsSCT and SAVI trainings in the US and Europe. She is a licensed SCT practitioner, a certified SAVI trainer and a member of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute Board.
Susan Gantt, Ph.D.
Susan is Chair of the System-Centered Training and Research Institute. She consults and trains internationally and previously coordinated group psychotherapy training for Emory University School of Medicine’s psychiatry department for 29 years. She has co-authored systems-centered texts with Yvonne Agazarian, co-edited the first book on interpersonal neurobiology and groups, and has written about emotional intelligence and phases of development in organisations, teams and work groups.
Ray Haddock, MBChB, M.MedSc, FRCPsych
Ray is a Licensed Systems-Centered Practitioner and a Member of the Institute of Group Analysis. He is also a member of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute Board of Directors, and of the Board of the International Association of Group Psychotherapy. He leads SCT training groups and workshops in the UK and internationally. Qualified in medicine and psychiatry, he practised as a Consultant Medical Psychotherapist in the NHS for over 25 years. He uses the Theory of Living Human Systems in day-to-day organisational work, consultation, mentoring and leadership development.Juliet Koprowska
Juliet Koprowska works as an independent trainer and consultant after many years as a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at the University of York. She has extensive systems-centered training and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute. She co-leads SCT trainings in the UK and the US and offers individual and group mentoring using systems-centered principles and methods.Annie MacIver. MA BA CQSW
Annie MacIver is a licensed Systems-Centered practitioner, has an MA in Consultation and the Organisation from UEL and the Tavistock Institute and is a qualified social worker. She has worked primarily within local government contexts, latterly as Director of Children’s Services. Annie has a particular interest in child protection work and adoption and fostering; she is specifically interested in developing interventions and building workforce skills to address the impact of developmental trauma on children and carers. Working in senior leadership roles over the last 20 years in large organisations has enabled Annie to develop a deep understanding of the challenges of delivering services and outcomes in contexts which are under significant pressure and stress. Applying SCT she has built effective teams and partnerships enabling them to deliver high quality outcomes. Through coaching and mentoring she has built the confidence and resilience of individuals and teams thereby releasing their energy and creativity to find solutions and meet the system goals.Mike Maher, MA, PGCE
Mike Maher is a psychotherapist, trainer and organizational consultant. He is Director of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute and a Licensed SCT Practitioner. He leads three ongoing SCT training groups and has led SCT trainings and organisational interventions in many international contexts. He was Deputy Director in a Therapeutic Community and subsequently he has developed a specialism in working with staff who work with client groups - adolescents and adults - characterized by their challenging natures. He has written papers and book chapters in working with staff groups, organizational issues in mental health reform, managing self-harm behaviours and other subjects, and has presented at many national and international conferences.Dates and venues 9–13 September 2019
